Front Yard Transformation in Trabuco Canyon

Finished Catalina artificial turf front lawn in Trabuco Canyon

Some yards need a full reset. This 438 sq ft front yard in Trabuco Canyon, California had seen better days — patchy natural grass, bare dirt spots, and a struggling planter bed that was more weeds than greenery. The homeowner wanted a lawn that stayed green year-round without the water bill or weekend upkeep. Here’s how our crew turned it around.

Before: Worn Out and Thinning

Patchy, thinning natural grass front yard with bare dirt before turf installation

The existing lawn had thinned out unevenly across the yard, with bare dirt breaking through in multiple spots. Before any turf went down, we mapped the new lawn’s layout with temporary stakes, following the curve of the paver driveway border.

The planter bed along the walkway told the same story — dried-out grass, exposed soil, and a miniature fence border that was doing little to actually define the space.

The Install: Built From the Base Up

Our crew removed the old grass and roots, then excavated and brought in a compacted base graded to sit flush with the pavers and walkway — the step that keeps a synthetic lawn from looking recessed or carpet-like. A weed barrier went down next to keep anything from pushing back through.

From there we laid Catalina Turf, one of our landscape favorites, seaming and trimming it to follow every curve of the yard. Finally, we power-groomed the blades upright and worked in infill to anchor them, so the lawn reads as full, natural grass from every angle.

After: Full, Green, Edge to Edge

Catalina Turf now fills the yard edge to edge, running tight against the paver curve. No more dead patches, no more uneven thinning — just a consistent, full lawn from fence line to walkway that will look this way year after year.

Along the walkway, rock bed, and tight corners around the planter, the turf holds a crisp transition to stone and soil. To lock those borders in, we finished the perimeter, planters, and tree wells with brown Standard WonderEdge, giving the roses and flowering plants a defined edge to grow against.

The Result

What was once a patchy, inconsistent front yard is now a clean, cohesive, water-wise lawn that never needs mowing. A great-looking synthetic lawn comes down to the right turf and an install done right from the base up — and this one shows it.
